Included is a Chinese chair made of red-lacquered wood with gilded accents and a curved, openwork backrest. The central panel of the backrest features two relief-carved medallions on a bright red lacquered background; one is adorned with a foliage scroll motif, and theother depicting a lively scene of a scholar and his assistant. The solid, square-sectioned seat rests on a straight base joined by crossbars, topped at the front by a low, discreetly carved apron.
