Women's informal "changfu" jacket in red silk with embroidered flowers and butterflies, China, circa 1900 Silk satin embroidered with polychrome threads, decorated with three medallions on the front, three on the back and one on each shoulder. Each round medallion features five bats and two butterflies among numerous small flowers. The same design is repeated on the dark blue trim of the sleeves and collar. Four terrestrial diagrams surrounded by crashing waves and Taoist objects, followed by a band of lishui, adorn the bottom of the dress. It closes on the right side with four buttons. H. 139 cm (stains, insoles, wear in the silk)
