- 3 volumes in-12, 165 x 94 : (2 ff.), 48, 408 pp. ; (2 ff.), 504 pp. ; (2 ff.), 534 pp., (3 ff.). Tan glazed calf, gilt arms in center of boards, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges (period binding).
New collective edition, the first complete, of the comedies by Zacharie Jacob (c. 1600-1667) and his son Antoine Jacob (1640-1685), both known by the pseudonym Montfleury - a homonymy that is a source of bibliographical confusion, which the disclaimer of this edition carefully clarifies.
A copy bearing the coat of arms of Marie-Sophie-Émilie-Honorate Colbert de Seignelay, duchesse de Montmorency-Luxembourg (1711-1747), daughter of Marie-Jean-Baptiste Colbert, marquis de Seignelay, comte de Tancarville, and Marie-Louise-Maurice de Furstenberg. She married Charles-Antoine-Frédéric de Montmorency, Duc de Luxembourg, in 1724.
The copy has been enriched with a portrait of Montfleury fils drawn and engraved by Delvau in 1787, mounted at the head of the first volume.
Hinges and headpieces skilfully restored, split at the hinge of the first cover of the first volume, at the height of the last box. Very good condition inside.
Provenance: Duchesse de Montmorency-Luxembourg, with her coat of arms on the boards.
