Andrea Olga MANTOVANI (Born 1985) Roots Edition 2 / 7 Pigment print on Fine Art paper 39 x 49 cm (view) Silver photograph Photograph taken in 2017 in the Białowieża forest, the oldest in Europe, dating back some 10,000 years, in the far east of Poland, a remnant of the last Ice Age. The image captures the root system of a fallen thousand-year-old oak tree, living testimony to nature's strength and longevity. Andrea Olga Mantovani (born 1985) is a photographer and committed visual artist. Trained in geography, she explores the links between landscapes, memory and ecological issues through a documentary and poetic approach. Her work, at the crossroads of activism and the imaginary, reveals the fragile beauty of living things and the complexity of environmental crises. In 2022, she published S'enforester (Éditions d'Une Rive à l'Autre), devoted to Europe's primary forests. She is currently pursuing her research into the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine and the Mediterranean. Her work has been exhibited in several European institutions, including her latest project at the Jeu de Paume in Paris in February 2025. She is a correspondent for The New York Times and collaborates regularly with Greenpeace.
