Jérôme Barbe Fontaine was born in Suresnes in 1974. He lives in Paris and works in his studio at the former Chapal Montreuil factory and in the surrounding area. He obtained his Diplôme National Supérieur d'Arts Plastiques in 1999 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, alongside Didier Semin and Joel Kermarrec, after studying photography and printmaking at the Sydney College of Art and the Australian National University in Canberra (Collin-Lefranc scholarship). He recently received support from DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Astre, réseau des arts visuels en Nouvelle-Aquitaine for the Tangue! project with Terrain de jeux, and from Région Pays de la Loire for the exhibition Vivre entre Vienne et Loire - Musée Chinon Vienne et Loire with Terrain de jeux. Jérôme Barbe Fontaine expresses his vision of the world through painting, drawing and photography, capturing the direct perception on motif of his daily life to reflect the new contemporary reality. The time spent capturing these images is experienced as a unique performative retinal experience. Meticulous observation of his environment builds up a vocabulary of forms that he can recombine.
