JEAN-MARIE CAMUS (1877-1955) - Lot 75
JEAN-MARIE CAMUS (1877-1955) Young child Sculpture. Bronze proof with shaded antique green patina. Lost wax casting. Early edition. Signed Jean CAMUS on the terrace, inscribed Cire originale and stamped LAMY cire perdue on the edge of the terrace. H. 81 cm Jean-Marie Camus, born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1877, studied with Barrias and Coutan at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Although he was both a painter and a sculptor, it was in the latter field that he achieved real recognition. His creations ranged from sculpted portraits, such as the 1910 portrait of Suzanne, to representations of children, as evidenced by our work, and monumental works, notably those dedicated to the dead of the Great War. He was a worthy representative of academic sculpture in the first half of the 20th century. He died in 1955 in Paris, the city of his choice, even though he spent much of his life in his native Puy-de-Dôme.
