Pair of louis XVI style torches attributed to the Maison Alp - Lot 306
Pair of louis XVI style torches attributed to the Maison Alphonse Giroux in chased and gilded bronze, the shaft with leaning swans, resting on a poly-lobed base ending in flattened ball feet, numbered "5217" on the reverse; drilled for electricity. H. 16 cm (6 ¼ in.) (wear and chips to gilding) Let's also mention that in one of the famous blue notebooks written by Henry Pannier, owner of the Maison l'Escalier de Cristal, we find mention of a "Petit flambeau L. XVI à L.XV cygnes rocaille" whose preparatory sketch accompanied by the mention "Hazard" (probably for the Parisian bronzier Eugene Hazard) Comparative bibliography: A. Masseau, D. Masseau, L'Escalier de Cristal, Le luxe à Paris 1809-1923, Éditions Monelle Hayot, 2021, p. 248.
