Sergey Ivanovich GUBKIN (1821-1869) - Lot 298
Sergey Ivanovich GUBKIN (1821-1869)
Large vermeil cream or milk jug on pedestal. The body is decorated with stylized scrolls and two silver high reliefs depicting a cow on one side and a bull on the other. The high neck with spout is also decorated with geometric motifs between two wide belts with six rounded bands. The handle is elliptical in cross-section.
Hallmarks: 84, Moscow, 1854, assayer "А-К" (Alexander Antonovich Kovalsky) and silversmith "[ГУ]БКИНЪ" (Serguey Ivanovich Goubkine) with Court supplier eagle.
Height: 16.8 cm; Diameter of body: 11 cm; Net weight: 461 g
(bumps and dents to the body. Deformation of the pedestal)
It is probable that this pot, inspected as a semi-finished product in 1854, before S. I. Goubkine became a supplier to the Court, was not finished and sold until 1855 or later, which explains why the eagle mark, to which it was only entitled in 1855, was inscribed on an object bearing an 1854 inspection mark.
