18th century German school Saint Florent of Strasbourg mauled by King Dagobert's hunters Original oil on canvas Inscriptions on reverse: "Saint Florent is badly treated by King Dagobert's hunters". 61 x 104 cm (old restorations) Saint Florent has retired to the forest to lead a hermit's life. One day, King Dagobert's hunters saw him being obeyed by the wild beasts, whom he had asked not to attack his crops. Not recognizing the Saint, and fearing he was a magician, they mistreated and robbed him.
