Butterfield sundial in engraved brass enclosing a compass, the plate with four alternating hour scales in Arabic and Roman numerals. 16-direction compass with blued steel needle. Gnomon engraved with bird and foliage. On the back are the latitudes of twenty-five cities in France and Europe: Paris, Rome, Lyon, London, Bourdeaux (with error), Douay, Dijon, Brussels, Ghent... Signed GUIBOUT A PARIS. Second half of the 18th century. Grained leather case (one hook missing). H. 3 cm - L.7,4 cm - W. 6,6 cm Joseph Simon Guibout - Paris active 1745-1770 A similar model preserved at Harvard University, Maine, USA.
