Honey-patinated copper alloy incense burner, partially gilde - Lot 219
Honey-patinated copper alloy incense burner, partially gilded.
Imitating the shape of archaic mistletoe bronzes, it stands on a high foot ending in a toric bulge. The rounded body curves towards the rim and flares out again at the neck.
It is flanked on either side by a handle in the shape of a mythical animal's head, adorned with flames and a curvilinear heel. The body is molded with a relief decoration of archaic motifs inspired by Taotie masks on a geometric starry background. A frieze of finely interlaced foliage decorates the neck and base of the incense burner. On the base a six-character mark in zhuanshu (sigillary characters) Yunjian Hu Wenming Zhi 雲間胡文明製 (Made by Hu Wenming of Yunjian) inside a rectangular gilded cartouche.
