Narcisse DIAZ de LA PENA (Bordeaux 1807 - Menton 1876) Children with an eagle, or Children frightened by a bird of prey Panel Inscribed on the reverse: "I certify that this painting is by my father / Eug Diaz / June 21, 1886". 13 x 21.5 cm (old restorations) We would like to thank Rolande Miquel and Michael T. Klaa for confirming the authenticity of this work, based on a digital photograph, in April 2024. They compare our composition with a very similar one sold at Christie's, New York, 2001 (see P. and R. Miquel, Narcisse Diaz de La Pena. Catalog raisonné de l'œuvre peint, Courbevoie, 2006, no. 2282). In our painting, a beam from the roof of the pergola (behind the raptor's left wing) does not appear in any of the other paintings in the series. This painting will be included in the supplement to the catalog raisonné currently in preparation.
