HESSE Henri Joseph (Paris, 1781 - Paris, 1849). Pair of portraits of a young dark-haired man and a young woman in high-waisted white dress and white shawl, Empire period, in pendants. Miniatures on ivory signed and dated: Hesse / 1807 (on the left for the man, on the right for the woman) D. 10.3 cm and 10.2 cm Rectangular burr veneer frames, 19th century, by Maison Lebrun 155 Faubourg St Honoré; each: 21.5 x 18.2 cm (vertical split in the center for the man; vertical split to the left not affecting the subject for the woman, chip to the right edge; diseased glasses, cracks to the frames). Date: 1807 N°CIC : FR230751780-K Miniature painter and draughtsman, pupil of Louis David. Awarded a medal at the 1833 Salon, this artist is represented at the Louvre, the Musée Condé in Chantilly, the Fondation Custodia, etc.
