Iran Qajar, 19th century Mirror case with religious and gul-o-bulbul decoration. Small rectangular polylobed papier-mâché mirror case with painted and lacquered decoration of a gul-o-bulbul floral composition populated with nightingales on a powdered gold background. Inside, a portrait of 'Ali, nimbed and kneeling under a sky filled with cherubs, his zulfikar saber in his hands, is painted on one side and under glass. He is surrounded by his sons Hassan and Hussein and medallions and cartouches with religious inscriptions in honor of the Imam. 15.9 x 9.9 cm (wear, mirror missing, glass detached)
