Two paintings on paper, gold, polychrome and silver on black background, China 18th/19th century. One depicting Ingata 布袋罗汉 bu dai luo han depicted with his large bag and portrayed satisfied and joyful. Originally a Buddhist monk living in the 10th century, he is a symbol of prosperity and contentment. The other depicting Yasa 耶舍尊者 ye she zun zhe standing holding a vase in his hand from which a cloud topped by a temple is escaping. The story goes that Aśoka, the third emperor of the Indian Maurya dynasty, who wanted to build 84,000 temples to place the "Śarīra" of Śākyamuni, sought the help of Yasa who magically caused 84,000 rays of light to shoot out from his finger where at the end of each one a temple was installed.
