Pair of Regency-style sconces, stamped HENRI VIAN In gilded and chased bronze with two arms of light, decorated with acanthus leaves and featuring the Roman gods Mars and Minerva in antique-style armor and wearing Italian Renaissance helmets. Stamped with the initials H.V. 750 on the back for HENRI VIAN. Late 19th century H. 61 cm - L. 36 cm (pierced, electrically mounted, minor wear to gilding) Henri Vian (1860-1905) Bronzier and foundryman, grandfather of Boris Vian, specialized in the production of furniture bronzes, bronze interior ornaments: fireplaces, bronze-mounted vases, lighting fixtures. He took part in the Universal Exhibitions of 1878, 1889 and 1900, winning a gold medal in 1889. He set up store at 5, rue de Thorigny in Paris, in the Hôtel Salé, now the Musée Picasso.
