Iran, Shiraz 16th-19th century Four illustrated folios of a Nizami Khamseh handwritten on paper, the Persian text calligraphed in nasta'liq with black ink and divided into four columns. Each illustrated with gouache and gold, scenes from the Khamseh: Sandjar challenged by the old woman, Bahram and the lion, Dara dying supported by Iskandar, and a battle scene. 20th-century montage in a margin with four illuminated calligraphic cartouches. Mounted on cardboard. Dim. folios: 17x10 cm (Some polychromy, repaints, stains, one lack replaced in the qâjâr period)
