[PESSAH] - Lot 273
[PESSAH] Large polychrome decorated earthenware Seder plate with the episodes and Kiddush of the feast in the center. The dish is decorated on the marli and in reserve with Hebrew scenes and representations of biblical characters. 19th century, apocryphal date on back (Important firing defect: enamel overthickness) D. 44 cm Interesting plate made in the 19th century in Pexonne in the taste of 16th-century Italian works. Until the end of the 20th century, some experts and museums dated them to the 16th or 17th century, and it wasn't until 1991 that Dr. Vivian Mann established that the decoration on these plates was inspired by the Trieste Hagadah published in 1864. Similar to the one in the MAHJ collections under inventory number: 2017.03.001.
