* Vasily Grigorievich KRITCHEVSKY (1872/1873-1952) - Lot 35
* Vasily Grigorievich KRITCHEVSKY (1872/1873-1952) Village scene, 1945 Oil on cardboard. Signed (in Latin letters, B. Krycevsky) and dated lower left. 19 x 33 cm This work was painted in 1945, when V. G. Kritchevsky had just moved to Paris to live with his eldest son Nikolai. He signed it in "French", translating his first name into Basile (hence the initial B) and using the same transcription of his name as that used by his son, who had been living in Paris since 1928 (or 1929). At the time, the latter was working on the illustration of Gogol's novel Taras Bulba, and perhaps Vassili Kritchevsky wanted to try his hand at this subject in parallel.
